Homeless charity Focus Ireland has warned that thousands more Irish homes could be sold off to Vulture funds.

It says government moves to restrict the funds do not go far enough.

Focus says it is concerned about reports that Irish banks are planning to sell off almost €3 billion worth of distressed buy-to-let properties.

The organisation is warning of "a flood of evictions" if the banks go ahead with sales to vulture funds.

Focus Ireland's Roughan Mac Namara said: “Many homes will still be at risk. It appears they'll still be able to try to evict tenants in batches but not all in one go. Meanwhile, Families or individuals living in single rented homes or apartment blocks consisting of less than 20 homes will not be protected."
