A status orange fog warning will remain in place across the east, northeast and midlands until later this morning.

Motorists are being advised to take care while driving with dense fog reported in counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Westmeath, Meath, Leitrim and Roscommon overnight.

The Road Safety Authority is advising motorists to switch on dipped headlights and fog lamps, reduce speed, and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
