Footage Released Of Man Suspected Of Killing Lyra McKee

Police in the North have released footage of the man suspected of killing Lyra McKee.

The 29-year-old journalist was shot dead in the Creggan area of Derry last week.

Dissident republican group the New IRA has admitted responsibility for her murder.

The PSNI says the man suspected of killing her is short, stocky and was wearing dark clothes on the night of the riots.

He's the third man circled in footage released by police in the North this morning:

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said: "It’s my belief he is the gunman that fired indiscriminately into the crowd, placed the community and police officers at risk and took the life of Lyra.

"You can see he is wearing dark clothing and in other footage you can see this clothing in a different light. People know who he is."

He again called for anyone with information to come forward, and moved to assure people that any concerns would be dealt with sensitively.

Detective Superintendent Murphy added: "At Lyra’s funeral on Wednesday we heard many messages about the potential for a better future but as I have said previously, such sentiment will all be in vain if collectively we cannot tackle the malign influence that some individuals continue to exert over our communities."
