The former assistant Dublin City and County manager George Redmond has died at the age of 92.

Mr Redmond served as assistant Dublin City and County manager until he retired in 1989, having started working at the authority as a clerk in 1941.

Mr Redmond served six months in jail in 2003 on two counts of corruption. However, the conviction was quashed by the Court of Criminal Appeal the following year and he was released.

In 2014, the Planning Tribunal agreed to withdraw findings of corruption and obstruction regarding Mr Redmond from its third interim report in 2004.

Mr Redmond had challenged the findings in 2005, and won a Supreme Court appeal in 2013 aimed at allowing him continue with his action.

He is reported to have died peacefully at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown following a short illness.
