Superintendent David Taylor has been reinstated to his position in the Gardaí.
Earlier today, the DPP ruled that the former head of the Garda Press Office does not have a case to answer, over the leaking of sensitive information to the media.
He was arrested in 2015, and placed on suspension for nearly two years.
Superintendent Taylor says he feels vindicated by the decision of the DPP.
It is understood he was contacted this evening by a senior Garda tonight and told he could return to his post at the Traffic Unit in Dublin Castle.
