Gardai have confirmed there was foul play in the death of a man in north Cork at the weekend.

36 year old Peter Murphy was found dead at his rented home in Shanavoher, just outside Mallow, on Saturday afternoon.

Gardai say a post mortem has confirmed he died of injuries that were not self inflicted, but they won't reveal how he died.

They're now trying to trace his final movements, and believe his last contact was when he rang his mother around 4 o'clock on Thursday afternoon.

They're appealing for anyone who saw him after that time to contact them.
