Four food businesses were issued with closure orders last month, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has said.

The enforcement orders were on a takeaway in Co Cork, and restaurants in Cork, Donegal and Tipperary.

Three closure orders were served under the FSAI Act 1998:

  • Beijing Taste Buffet (restaurant), 23-24 North Main Street, Cork
  • Saffron (restaurant), Creeslough, Donegal
  • Chick Chicken (take away), 10 East Beach, Cobh, Cork

In the case of Beijing Taste Buffet, HSE inspectors say they found "prolific evidence of rodent droppings".

At Chick Chicken they discovered "the presence of a live mouse adjacent to food contact materials".

A closure order was also served on New York Pizza (restaurant), Main Street, Ballina, Tipperary under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.

The FSAI says it's disappointed that there continues to be a small number of food businesses not complying with hygiene standards.

More details on the individual orders are available on the FSAI website.
