A month of free travel on public transport for those aged 19 or under starts tomorrow.

Intercity bus and rail services are still full fare -- but bus, suburban rail and trams are free for under-18s until the end of July, along with Local Link buses throughout the country.

All you need to get on board is a child leap card with one cent in credit or more.

The NTA's John O'Flynn says young people can experience a great deal of independence by travelling on public transport this summer.

He says public transport use by young people went up by 50 per cent while the offer was in place in previous years.
