Two friends who have been playing the same Lotto numbers for over 20 years have today collected a cheque for €10.2 million after they scooped the biggest jackpot of the year.
The pair, from Newbridge in Co Kildare, won the roll-over jackpot with an €8 multi-draw ticket.
‘The numbers represent significant birthdays in our two families’, one of the winners told National Lottery staff . ‘We’ve never missed a draw, which has involved some stressful last minute panics over the years; that’s the only problem with using the same numbers all the time. If someone was to start playing the lottery tomorrow, I would advise them to use Quick Pick. I can’t imagine the numbers coming up on the one time you didn’t have a ticket!’.
They have asked to remain private but revealed they intend to share their good fortune
‘We both come from large families and by the time we have paid off everybody’s mortgages, there’s going to be a lot of surprised and happy people out there. Some donations to charity and enough left over to never worry again. What more could you ask for?’
