The government is moving closer to announcing a Commission of Inquiry into conditions at mother and baby homes.

Children's minister Charlie Flanagan will brief his colleagues on the progress of the cross-departmental investigation this morning, with ministers likely to order a full Commission of Inquiry in the coming weeks if not today.
The full extent of any possible investigation could become clear later today: tonight the Dail will debate a Sinn Féín motion calling for an immediate Commission of Inquiry.
