A man has been killed in a crash in county Galway.

It happened at Carrick East, Cornamona at half one this afternoon.

The man who was in his fifties was the only person in the car in at the time.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem examination will take place.

A technical examination is due to take place and the road is expected to remain closed until tomorrow morning.
