The Garda Commissioner's expected to face questions from the media today over the GSOC surveillance controversy.

Martin Callinan is due to attend the Garda College in Templemore which is is celebrating it's 50th Anniversary today.

190 recruits began their training in February of 1964 when the Garda training facility was opened in Co. Tipperary by the then Justice Minister Charles Haughey.

Templemore was chosen at the time because it was centrally located and had a railway station, making it accessible from any part of Ireland within a couple of hours.

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan will be among the many in attendance at the celebrations this morning.

Templemore will opening it's doors to more than 200 new recruits this year.

Last night, Justice Minister Alan Shatter increased the pressure on the chairman of the Garda Ombudsman Commission - after he last night stated his confidence in GSOC - but didn't mention Simon O'Brien by name.

Labour Senator Susan O'Keeffe is on the Oireachtas Public Oversight Committee - she says an independent investigation wouldn't be appropriate at this stage.
