The Taoiseach has said the sympathy of the country goes to the family of Garda Tony Golden, who died in last night's murder-suicide in Omeath.

Enda Kenny described the death as a "terrible tragedy" which highlights the "unknown quantity" that Gardaí face every day.

Garda Tony Golden was killed in a murder suicide in Co Louth yesterday - which has also left a woman in her 20s fighting for her life in hospital.

The Garda Commissioner, Noirin O’Sullivan has visited the scene of last night's shooting in Omeath.
