A garda remains in St James' Hospital this evening after he was set upon by a group of men in Dublin early yesterday.

It happened at around 6 o'clock yesterday morning, after the garda and his colleague were chasing two men after a suspected stolen car was abandoned in Ballinteer.

The suspects ran into a housing estate in Dundrum and a number of men came out of a house and set upon the garda, aged in his 30s.

It's understood he was beaten and stabbed.

Two men, aged 18 and 20, were arrested a short time later and will appear in Dun Laoghaire District Court on 22nd March.
