Garda Ombudsman Commissioner Kieran Fitzgerald, is in a serious condition in hospital in Spain, after falling while on holiday.

Mr FitzGerald was appointed to the GSOC in December 2011

It's understood he fell off a wall onto rocks in northern Spain and was placed in a medically-induced coma.

Meanwhile a 21 year old woman has died in Spain.
