Gardaí are warning the public against an alleged phone scam to obtain bank information.

The scam, known as ‘vishing’, has seen numerous people receive phone calls from someone purporting to be a Security Manager at a well-known retailer in Ireland, telling them there was an attempt to use their debit or credit card in the store.

It’s resulted in people sharing their personal information with fraudsters, and in some cases transferring money out of their accounts.
