Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked in a burglary in County Wicklow on Tuesday.

The man in his 80's was on his own in the house in Ballynultagh in Shillelagh when three men entered the house at around 9pm.

The men then assaulted the man a number of times with an iron bar and and demanded cash.

They escaped with a sum of cash and jewellery.

The men are of average height, two are of slim build and one of stocky build and they are all in their 20's.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Baltinglass Garda Station.

The elderly man is still in hospital where his condition is described as stable.
