Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a male torso dumped in a canal Co Kildare.

The discovery was made in the Grand Canal at Ardclough Village yesterday - by teenagers who found a suitcase in the water.

The remains have been removed from the scene for a post mortem examination by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis - while searches at continuing at the site.

Gardai believe the man died in recent days, and they're appealing to anyone who used the canal path from Thursday morning to yesterday afternoon, to contact them with any information they might have.

Superintendent Gerry Wall of Leixlip Garda Station is leading the investigation:
Anyone who may have information is urged to call Leixlip Garda station: 01 6667800 or the Garda Confidential Line.
