Gardaí have named the man murdered in last night's shooting in Dublin, as Mark Desmond.

Mr Desmond, who was in his late 30s and originally from Ballyfermot, was known to Gardaí and had a number of previous convictions.

He was shot in Griffeen Valley Park in Lucan at around 8 o'clock last night.

His body was discovered by a member of the public.

The area has been preserved while Gardaí continue to examine evidence.

The scene where a car was found burnt out at nearby Hayden's Lane also remains sealed off.
