Gardai have arrested a third man in connection with a serious assault in Carrick on Shannon last month.

The man in his 20s was arrested this afternoon in County Roscommon and is currently being detained at Carrick on Shannon Garda Station, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The 40 year old victim was assaulted on the 17th of July - he has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Another man and a woman were arrested on the 29th of July - they're currently before the courts charged in connection with the incident and investigations are ongoing.
