Gardai have confirmed that in 2007 they investigated allegations of substantial tax evasion by people, including senior politicians and at least one former judge.
Gardai say the allegations were fully investigated and a file was sent to the DPP.
Earlier Fianna Fail's Sean Fleming said a dossier given to members of the public accounts committee this week claims that several politicians used offshore bank accounts to avoid paying tax.
