Two Gardaí are being hailed as heroes after saving two people from a burning building in Dublin.
They received reports of a fire in the early hours of yesterday morning at a house in Monkstown.
They rescued a woman in her 20s from the blaze, before going back in to save an elderly man.
The man is being treated for smoke inhalation at St Vincent's Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Garda Steven Carton says the fire was well-developed when they arrived on the scene:
"We gained entry into the house and got the female out.
"She made us aware there was an elderly man still in[side].
"So I suppose we went back inside and we gained entry to a couple of doors that were down below.
"He was actually covered quite heavily in, in soot or smoke and brought him to safety.
"Went back in again just to make sure everything else is clear. Everybody else is. There's nobody else left in the house."
