Gardai are investigating the discovery of a dismembered body in a canal in Co. Kildare.

A man's torso was discovered in a suitcase on Saturday afternoon in the Grand Canal near Ardclough village.

Investigating officers believe the man was murdered in recent days.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who used the path along the waterway near Ardclough village - between Thursday morning and Saturday afternoon to contact them at Leixlip Garda Station.
