Gardai have named the man whose body was found in a canal in Kildare last Friday.

He was Kenneth O'Brien (33) from Lealand Road, Clondalkin in West Dublin.

He had been reported missing from his home by his family over the weekend.

Detectives say a DNA analysis on the remains was carried out at Garda HQ today. The results matched with Mr O'Brien's DNA profile.

Mr O'Brien was a JCB driver and diesel fitter. He recently returned home after three years in Australia. He is described as a family man with a partner.

Gardai are now intensifying their enquiries in the Clondalkin area, in particular in the Lealand Road area.

They are calling on anyone who contacted Kenneth between Friday to Saturday to come forward.

They're also renewing their appeal to people who used the canal on Friday night or early Saturday to come forward.

Superintendent Gerard Wall also called on property owners to check their premises if they have been away since the weekend.
