Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a teenager died in County Clare early today.

A 15-year-old boy was found dead on the road near Killimer, Kilrush at about twenty to seven this morning.

It's understood a motorist reported to gardai that she had hit something on the road.

However it's unclear whether the victim may have been lying on the roadside before he was struck.

Gardai say a post mortem examination to be carried out tonight will help to determine if the youth died as a result of being hit by the car.
