Gardaí are warning of a telephone scam in which people are told they are due to pay a tax bill.

The scam involves a caller instructing you to phone another number and give your credit card details.

In a statement Gardaí said: "Do not give out your credit/debit card, bank account, or PPS Number to anyone who makes contact with you over the phone.  An Garda Síochána, Revenue, nor any Financial Institution will ever call you and ask for your PPS number or bank account details."

Anyone who receives a call from someone requesting personal or financial information is being urged to inform their local Garda Station, or to call the Garda Confidential line on 1800-666-111.
