German police searching for a 22-year-old Syrian man believed to have been preparing a bombing attack have confirmed he'd been granted asylum.

Jabr Albakr slipped through their fingers as they were closing in on him in the eastern city of Chemnitz.

He came to Germany in 2015 in the flood of 900-thousand migrants.
