The Tanaiste has suggested Alan Shatter should withdraw his claims that two Garda whistleblowers refused to co-operate with the penalty points inquiry.
Eamon Gilmore says it's a matter for the Minister for Justice himself, but that it would be "helpful" if the comments were withdrawn.
Meanwhile the minister who ignited the controversy, Leo Varadkar, is refusing to back down from his calls on the Garda Commissioner to withdraw his own comments, describing the actions of the whistleblowers as "disgusting".
