Leaders from across the globe have condemned last night's deadly attacks.

President Michael D Higgins has offered his deepest sympathy through President Hollande to the people of France - on what he describes as ' this dreadful loss of life and appalling injuries'.

While Taoiseach Enda Kenny says his thoughts and those of all the Irish people are with the French citizens.

Pope Francis has condemned the killings as "mad terrorist violence" and has called for a response to counter the spread of "homicidal hatred".

A spokesman for the Vatican said it condemns the attacks "in the most radical way".
