Office temperatures are to be turned down this winter for public sector staff as part of government plans to tackle the energy crisis.

The three coalition party leaders meet today to finalise a plan to reduce energy consumption this winter amid concerns of possible blackouts.

It's understood the memo being discussed by Michael Martin, Leo Varadkar and Eamon Ryan today, contains proposals similar to those recently unveiled in France and Germany.

If implemented the plan could see see office temperatures set at a maximum of 19 degrees, with heating turned off in lobby and corridor areas, and limited only to floors on which people are actually working.
