Government unveils St Patrick's Day travel programme

The government's announced details of the largest St Patrick's Day travel programme since it came to office.

Enda Kenny and 26 of his ministers will be travelling abroad, with many leading trade missions to encourage foreign investment in Ireland.

Ruairi Quinn and Brian Hayes will be the only ministers staying at home this St Patrick's Day.

For the first time ministers will be travelling to Mexico and Vietnam - while Russia's also among the destinatoins for the first time in four years.

The Taoiseach will be taking the usual visit to Washington DC to meet with President Obama - as well as visiting Boston and New York.

Meanwhile the Tánaiste has backed his party's deputy leader, Joan Burton, over her decision to boycott the parade in New York - which the Taoiseach will himself be participating in.
