The General Secretary of the Garda Representative Association is accusing the Government of sacking Martin Callinan on a political whim.
PJ Stone says the former Garda Commissioner, pictured above, was treated disgracefully and given no option or choice but to resign.
He also says neither the Justice Minister or Department of Justice should play a role in the appointment of the next Garda Commissioner.
