Irish singer-songwriter Hozier and rock group U2 have been nominated for a Grammy.

Hozier was named on the prestigious shortlist for song of the year for his hit ‘Take Me to Church’, while U2’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ album, originally released for free to iTunes users, is up for best rock album.

The Co Wicklow native's hit single faces Taylor Swift's Shake It Off, Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass, Sia's Chandelier, Fancy by Iggy Azalea and Sam SmithÂ’s Stay with Me.

Elsewhere Ed Sheeran joins Sam Smith among the UK acts in the running for next year's Grammy Awards as nominations were revealed last night.
