Police in Greece have arrested a 52 year old Greek man over the death of his Irish partner.

The man is alleged to have killed the 48-year-old woman, who is believed to be from Northern Ireland originally, at their apartment in Athens.

The Department of Foreign affairs confirmed it's providing consular assistance to the woman's family.
