The Government is to oppose a Green Party bill aiming to ban microbeads from cosmetics in Ireland.
The beads which are found in some exfoliators and toothpastes are harmful to the environment and can be ingested by wildlife - and the Green party is bringing a bill to the Seanad on the issue today.
The Government says the bill goes against EU law but it remains committed to a ban on microbeads
