GSOC is investigating a crash in which a motorcyclist was critically injured after hitting a Garda patrol car.

The man - in his early 20s - has been taken to Beaumont Hospital with head injuries.

Just before 5 o'clock this morning, a motorbike and a garda patrol car collided at the junction of Sean McDermott Street and Buckingham Street in Summerhill in Dublin 1.

The motorcyclist - a man in his early 20s - was critically injured in the crash and has been transferred to Beaumont Hospital with serious head injuries.

A team of investigators from the Garda Ombudsman Commission has examined the scene because a Garda patrol car was involved - as is normal procedure in caes of death or serious harm.

GSOC is also appealing for any witnesses to this morning's crash to come forward.
