The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission says it now regrets its decision not to report bugging concerns.
GSOC says a security sweep of its headquarters in Dublin last year - uncovered three technical and electronic anomalies.
However no databases were breached and no evidence of Garda misconduct was found - so the investigation was discontinued.
The Garda Commissioner, Martin Callinan, says he will seek clarification from GSOC, as to whether there basis for the suspicion of Garda misconduct and the extent of irregularities uncovered.
