The Garda Ombudsman Commission has decided to open an investigation into an incident involving a Garda and a homeless man in Dublin last week.
In a video posted online a Garda appears to have his foot on the leg of a man who is lying on the ground on Henry Street in the city centre.
It's also claimed the Garda used pepper spray on the man after he was handcuffed.
In a statement this evening, GSOC says it has decided to open an investigation into the incident based on the level of public disquiet generated by this incident.
A superintendent from outside of the division has also been appointed to carry out an internal investigation.
