A man is in custody after a firearm and silencer were found in a van, during a Garda operation targeting gangland crime yesterday.

The vehicle failed to stop for Gardaí from the Special Crime Task force on Kylemore Way in Inchicore shortly before 3pm.

A number of shots were fired by Gardaí during the incident but no one was injured.

The weapon was found when officers managed to stop the van and the man was arrested at the scene.

A second vehicle managed to escape and an investigation is underway.
