Two Irish people are among nearly 150 passengers and crew confined to cabins on a cruise ship off Cape Verde, following an outbreak of Hantavirus.
Three people have died after travelling on the MV Hondius.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said there are two confirmed cases, with five other suspected cases.
The HSE says the risk to Ireland is low and the Department of Foreign Affairs says it’s aware of the two Irish citizens on board and is providing consular assistance.
Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, from the WHO, said the focus is on treating the sick, and keeping the remaining passengers and crew safe and healthy.
"The WHO has been working with countries who are co-operating to advise on the next steps for the ship.
"There has been excellent co-operation from all those involved.
"Our priority is to keep the passengers and the crews safe and healthy while limiting the spread of this virus.
"Passengers are being asked to stay in their cabins and limit their risk while disinfection and other measures are being taken".
