It's National Potato Day!

Ireland's favourite tuber has got it's own national holiday, with potato fans all around the country celebrating the humble spud.

From chips to roasties, mashed or fried; potatoes are still Ireland's favourite carb at mealtime.

The potato has been engrained in the Irish psyche for hundreds of years, playing a huge role in Irish culture. To honour its importance Bord Bia is celebrating the 4th annual National Potato Day.

Spuds are bought every two seconds in Irish retailers, with over 300 thousand tonnes of produced last year.  The spend on potatoes this year is expected to be in the region of €201 million.

Kim Buckley spoke to this year's Potato Ambassador, chef Mark Moriarty, and a few Dubliners about their love of spuds.
