Hate Crime Complaints Over Bonfires In The North

The fire service in the North had a busy night with 100 call outs in ahead of the annual 12th of July celebrations.

A number of hate crime complaints were filed over items on several bonfires, including racist messages and election posters of Sinn Fein member John Finucane.

A son of the late Martin McGuinness, meanwhile, called for an end to "displays of hate" at loyalist bonfires after a coffin bearing a picture of his father was placed on one in Belfast last night.

Emmett McGuinness said he had been raised by his parents never to hate anyone or anything.

Meanwhile, footage showed a huge bonfire collapse at Kilcooley in Bangor:

The bonfires were followed by dozens of parades this morning, with the controversial Ardoyne parade in north Belfast said to have passed off without incident.
