A 12-hour status yellow alert kicks in for counties Louth, Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford, Carlow and Kilkenny from midday on Friday.
Cathal Nolan, from Ireland's Weather Channel, said homes and businesses located on higher ground could see up to 80 millimeters of rain today and tomorrow.
"We have the risk over the next 48 hours, in some elevated parts of Wicklow, into parts of Wexford, of seeing a further 70 or 80 millimeters of rain based on some of the weather models,
"This of course would be concerning at any time, but given the extent of the flooding we've seen of late, the waterlogged soils and the height of the rivers, it's very concerning indeed".
"We're going to see difficult travel conditions and very high, river levels probably bank, or out of bank, conditions across all the rivers really in the east street of the country".
Clean up efforts are also continuing in Rathfarnham in south Dublin.
Tuesday's flooding came amid delays to a flood scheme in the area following objections to the Whitechurch River Flood alleviation scheme which has delayed the timeline.
Pamela Kearns, Mayor of South Dublin County Council, said supports have been put in place for homeowners who were impacted by flooding earlier this week.
"We went up yesterday with a pallet load of sandbags.
"The engineers are working as we speak, on the ports in the area for the flood alleviation scheme, trying to shore it up until it can be done properly, because we've had a number of delays on it.
"Had it been in place, we wouldn't have had the flood we had on Tuesday".
