St James's Hospital in Dublin is to routinely test all Emergency Department patients for HIV, Hepatitis B and C from now on.
It follows a pilot project last year which management says highlighted the prevalence of all three viral infections among the 45 thousand ED patients they see every year.
The announcement's been made on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, and the hospital says the commencement of the scheme represents international best practise.
