A new survey indicates that nearly 1 in 3 of us will take more foreign holidays in 2016, compared to five years ago.

The poll of over 5 thousand people found one in three will travel more this year because they have more disposable income.

And a quarter said they go abroad because they say its cheaper to holiday overseas.

17 and 24 years old are most likely to take more foreign holidays, according to the survey by AA travel insurance.

Meanwhile, Domestic Irish tourism is expecting a bumper year.

A Fáilte Ireland survey has found that nearly three quarters of tourism businesses had improved sales in the first three months of the year.

And 63 per cent of firms expected increased business in 2016.

Fáilte Ireland says an early Easter coupled with St Patrick's Day celebrations led to a busy first quarter.

Higher numbers of Mainland Europeans and US visitors are contributing to the strong figures, according to tourism operators.
