A Labour minister has said Eamon Gilmore has all the qualities needed to be Ireland's next EU Commissioner.
Brendan Howlin's comments come as tensions between Fine Gael and Labour heat up over who should get the job.
Fine Gael are keen to secure the job for Phil Hogan - while Labour wants it for Eamon Gilmore.
Although the Taoiseach brushed off the subject this morning, Brendan Howlin says his current party leader ticks all the right boxes:
There are plenty of reasons why a new Commissioner would want the job: it carries a salary of around €239,000.
The current commissioner Maire Geoghegan-Quinn will get a pension of over €1,000 a week - BEFORE her cabinet and Dáil pensions come into play.
