The HSE is understood to be considering installing prefabs at a number of hospitals.

The Irish Independent reports it's in a bid to deal with overcrowding.

According to the newspaper the units will be used to house patients who may be recovering from surgery but are not seriously ill.

It's reported Castlebar Hospital in the Taoiseach's home constituency is one of the facilities earmarked for prefabs in the plan.
