The family of a Donegal mother of three who died from breast cancer is to receive 1.35 million euro in damages over failures to detect her condition.
Letterkenny General Hospital has issued an unreserved apology to the relatives of Melissa Hamilton for not diagnosing or treating her cancer at an earlier stage.
The 34 year old died in September 2011, weeks after she was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer.
On two earlier occasions the disease went undetected at the hospital's breast care clinic.
Liability was admitted in a damages action against her GP and the HSE.
Her husband Seamus Hamilton spoke after today's High Court settlement.
Solicitor Aidan Flahavan also spoke.
