The former general secretary of the Irish Farmers Association received over half a million euro in pay and pensions in 2013 - according to reports this evening.
The Irish Farmers Journal says Pat Smith received total pay of 535,000 euro two years ago - including a pension contribution of 150,000 euro and a 60,000 euro bonus.
The paper says the figures were given by the IFA president Eddie Downey to an emergency meeting of the IFA executive council in Portlaoise this evening.
Smith resigned yesterday after coming under fierce pressure to reveal his salary, which the IFA refused to divulge.
