Two prison officers have been injured in an attack by an inmate in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin this morning.
The officers, aged in their mid 30's and mid 40's, received slash wounds in the unprovoked attack, which happened at around 8.30am.
The Irish Prison Service has confirmed that the inmate used an improvised weapon.
The officers were taken to hospital, where their injuries are described as serious, but not life-threatening.
The Irish Prison Service has launched an investigation into the incident and gardaí have also been notified.
